The suburb of Blairgowrie developed as the suburbs of Johannesburg expanded north during the gold rush of yesteryear to accommodate the newly established gold mine workers.

Blairgowrie is slightly younger than Randburg, yet it is obvious that the suburb did not follow long after thus making it a well established suburb.

Blairgowrie is a suburb of Randburg and is by affiliation also an up market suburb with a mixed use. The up market tag comes from the architecture, location and amenities of the various suburbs. The architecture is a mixture of conventional and current modern designs and the homes are generally displayed against the all too familiar Highveld gardens which flourish in the soil.

The location of the suburb is a positive factor in adding to the demand for residential property as there are major roads leading to schools, commercial and retail hubs and other suburbs and cities in Johannesburg and abroad.

The suburb is also made up of sectional title townhouse complexes, freehold homes, apartment buildings and cluster homes which attract a large pool of potential home investors, tenants and home owners.

Schools in the region are sought after for their academic acclaim and also for the good participation in outdoor sports activities. Schools in close proximity to Blairgowrie include College Campus, Aurora Private School, St Stithians College and Blairgowrie Primary School.

There are also well-known malls close to Blairgowrie, including Blairgowrie Plaza, Windsor Glen, Appletons Village and Randridge Mall.

Major routes, making traveling easy and convenient are Bram Fisher Drive, Republic Road, William Nicol Drive and the N1 highway.

The suburb is also supported by commercial hubs located in Kya Sands, Hyde Park and Randburg CBD.
