Edenvale is on the East Rand and better situated than many East Rand suburbs with respect to highways and other destinations. As in most suburbs, there are the attractive and the not so attractive parts. Rietfontein, as Edenvale was known by South Africans after the Anglo Boer war, was started around the Rietfontein gold mine.

In 1942 Edenvale was made a municipality at which time the Cornish mine workers populated the region.

Amenities close by Edenvale include the following:

  • OR Tambo International Airport,
  • A Gautrain Station cutting through Kempton Park,
  • Isando and
  • The Wanderers cricket stadium. This is a short drive through Kew to get to the cricket grounds, without any traffic to hold you up.
  • Past The Wanderers in Corlett Drive you will get to Hyde Park and Sandton.
  • In Eastgate there is the very popular Ekurhuleni mall.

The property make-up in Edenvale is very mixed and functional. You will find neat, well-kept streets which is not very noisy. The average size for stands are between 800m2 and 1200m2. Property value in this region is equal to the rest of Gauteng and maybe even a bit lower, you will just need to shop around. Dower Glen, Edenglen and Woodmead are close by which also support the property value for the suburb.

Two functional malls were constructed recently, each unique in design. Standing out majestically, Greenstone Mall is quite impressive when viewed from the Modderfontein Road. Behind Greenstone Mall is Stoneridge Mall with restaurants, the Primi Piati being a favourite hangout. Also at this mall you will find retail shopping. It is in close proximity to suburbs like the Modderfontein Lifestyle Development, Tembisa, Kyalami and Midrand.
