Thornton unlike Pinelands did not preserve most of the trees which make Pinelands such an attractive suburb.
It is a well-established suburb which is in a prime location for residents employed in the industrial and manufacturing sectors. The property use of the suburb comprises sectional-title townhouse complexes, apartment building and freehold homes.
The demand for property in the suburb has increased with the development of the Grand West Casino. The demand has been further increased with the redevelopment of property in the suburb with new apartments and sectional-title townhouse complexes which are aimed at the middle class population.
The suburb is further enhanced by the neighboring suburb of Pinelands which is middle to upper-class suburb.
The access roads of the suburb are one benefit to its location with major roads linking the suburb in all directions. For travel to other towns two major highways namely the N1 and N2 are convenient to navigate to as is the access to the Cape Town International airport.
The suburb is ideal for people intending to enter the property market near to work and within a stable suburb with the large selection of apartments in the suburb with prices ranging form the mid R500’s to above the R650 mark depending on the finishings and size of the properties. The suburb is tranquil and child friendly with scores of day care centres near by.
The freehold homes are more of the conventional architecture and rather spacious which was a feature of homes of the period. The properties will suite the middle income groups. The suburb has a better reputation than Goodwood or Parow which are nearby suburbs.
