Midrand in Gauteng which was known as Halfway House in the past was a relatively small town which had some industrial and commercial activity with mostly farms and smallholdings as residential property. This invisible halfway mark has attracted businesses from all sectors due to its central location to Johannesburg, Centurion and Pretoria. This growth or expansion generated a huge demand for residential property and so began the process of Midrand and its many suburbs like Allandale.

Allandale is a rich diverse suburb of the ever expanding major commercial and industrial node of Gauteng namely Midrand. Not only is it a commercial and industrial hubs but it is also a highly sought after residential suburb with a broad property value base.

This broad base caters for low income housing right up to the prestigious home and then the various lifestyle and security estates which are also a major property value contributor. This factor is also then something that contributes to a mixed architecture which is from conventional to the ultra-modern styles of today.

The development of more lifestyle and security estates should continue for as long as there is still vacant land in Midrand and Allandale which is a good indication that the suburb does attract a fair share of the property investor’s market which in turn adds to the buoyancy of the property values in the suburb.

The upgrade of the Grand Central Airport has further enhanced the value of the region and its suburbs for foreign property investors which mostly buy into the lifestyle and security estates and the implementation of the Gautrain terminal in Midrand has made it highly cost effective and convenient for resident to travel and avoiding the congested peak hour traffic freeways.

The large scale development of the region has brought with it the need for infrastructure like schools and malls.

The Mall of Africa, which is the largest on the continent at present time, is located in Midrand and then there are a number of smaller retail outlets and malls such as Boulders Shopping Centre and Kyalami on Main Shopping Centre.

Schools that cater for educational needs of residents are Allandale are Midrand High School, Glen Austin High School and Midrand Primary School.
