2014 is the date.

The burgeoning Pretoria east is expanding at a rapid rate. A new development project, Savannah Mall, will commence around April 2014. The earmarked site is at the corner of Solomon Mahlangu Drive and Bronkhorstspruit Road in the east of Pretoria.

A R600 million mall will be constructed by Group Five Property Developers on what is claimed to be a prime location. The retail space will be marketed by JHI Properties.

SominThirsk, development manager for Group Five, says the development will be constructed on the banks of the Pienaars River servicing the communities to the north, east and closer by Mamelodi and Silver Lakes. The current flood line, Thirsk says, was accounted for.

Along with the mall there will be a residential development named Savannah Country Estate and the Africa Renaissance Lifestyle Estate.

The development will reduce traffic to the hub of retail shopping at Menlyn Mall in the east, and alleviate traffic congestion in and around the already busy Menlyn and surrounding suburbs.

The mall will be constructed on a single level catering for a variety of retail outlets with 3800m2 of space being utilised.

A development of this nature will assist suburbs like Mamelodi in becoming more self-sustaining and adding value to underprivileged communities. Two department stores are envisaged which will anchor the sustainability of the mall and ensure sustained rental income. Banking and entertainment are catered for which will make travelling costs a lot more affordable for the nearby residents.

Construction of the mall is in line with Green Building Standards which will reduce running costs of the mall, thus not adding a tax burden to the communities it will service.

A mall of this nature brings community upliftment and the already high unemployment figures are reduced further adding value to suburbs and lives.
