The picturesque property, Galway Farm, lies within the newly declared Private Nature reserve known as "The Ncandu Private Forest and Grassland Reserve". It is found in the foothills of the Northern Drakensberg Mountains at a height of 2000m above sea level.
There is an abundance of indigenous and protected flora and fauna, as expected in this mountainous area. The abundance of wild flowers bloom in spring after the rains, and can be seen on all the mountain slopes, river edges and grasslands until April.

We have personally viewed Meercat, yellow and black tipped Mongoose, Rock Dassies, Baboon, Black back Jackal, Oribi, Vaal Rhebok, Mountain Reedbuck, Blesbok. We have also seen evidence of Otter, porcupine, and other nocturnal rodents and small cats. Birdlife viewed include: Blue crane, Secretary birds, European Storks, Blue Korhaan, Grey winged Franklin, Birds of prey- including African Goshawk, Amur Falcons, Step Buzzard, Black and the White necked crow, as well as many other smaller species.
